An impressively comprehensive survey for the genre, including several chapters on David Livingstone and Stanley's rescue mission, as well as the African expeditions of Burton, Speke, Grant Baker, Schweinfurth, and Joseph Thomson, the Asian explorations of Sven Hedin and W. Woodville Rockhill, and the early history of Australian exploration and settlement. Copiously and attractively illustrated, several maps.
