Forty original etchings by Behmer tipped in. Boards lightly scuffed, binding has some play, large art nouveau-style bookplate on front free endpaper. "Influenced by Beardsley, [Behmer] had a predilection for odd and fantastic imagery. He illustrated Wilde (1903), Balzac (1904), Goethe (1910), and others" (Oxford Companion to the Book). This is one of the most acclaimed examples of his innovative book designs.
