Several of the illustrations have been partially colored (probably relatively recently). Includes some first-person tales (shipwreck, robbery by pirates, imprisonment in a Tripoli jail, crossing the desert with General Eaton's expedition), descriptive information (Egypt, Morocco and Algiers, Cape Colony, the Hottentots, wild animals ), and notable historic incidents (exploration of Mungo Park, Captain Riley's Shipwreck, etc).
