Hardcover. Very Good. xiv, 500 pp, indexed, with color frontispiece, numerous illustrations, and a large folding map of the Oban District, Southern Nigeria. Original green cloth with gilt lettering, mounted illustration. Corners lightly bumped, cloth torn at head of spine, all else very good. Talbot (1877-1945) was a botanist, anthropologist, and explorer in the service of the Nigerian Political Service. He and his wife traveled extensively in the Oban District and the Cameroon to study the Ekoi people, reporting in this volume on their religious and ceremonial practices, warfare, folklore, gender roles, etc. There are detailed appendices about taboos, anthropometry, language, botany, zoology, mineralogy, meteorology and geography.
