Londini [London]: Rogerus Daniel.
1653. Hardcover. Very good. Boards measure 13 x 18 cm, text block measures 11 x 17.1 cm. pp , 1279. Title page printed in red and black, with engraved printer's bell device; dedication page signed R.D.; double-column Greek text. In a recent full-leather binding signed "E. Moore." Uneven sunning and some staining to the boards; third leaf repaired, with some text loss (see our images); several small repairs to old wormholes at the top margin (not affecting text); still a very good copy. This is first edition of the Greek Septuagint printed in England. Darlow and Moule (4692) describe it as "professedly a reprint of the Sixtine text, with the scholia and variants." It was edited by the religious controversialist John Biddle (often called the Father of English Unitarianism), who made corrections to the text while imprisoned for heresy. Wing B2718; ESTC R210989.
