First Edition. Fair. Two quarto volumes, 10.75 x 8.25 inches. pp [viii] xxxix 732; [iv] 669 [2 publishers ads], with engraved frontis in each voluem. Bound in contemporary full polished calf with double-rule gilt borders to both boards, decorative borders in blind, five raised bands, marbled endpapers and edges marbled. Text is complete and clean, with minimal foxing (more prevalent in leaves nearest to the plates), but all four boards are detached. Library stamp on verso of each front free endpaper (no other library markings). Prior owner signatures have been cut away from the top corners of both title-pages, prior owner ink signature to ffep of second volume, still quite good internally. Lowndes describes this as "a curious and interersting collection of papers, chiefly relating to Scotland."
