Two octavo volumes, pp. p [viii], 358; [viii], 407, bound in three-quarter leather and marbled boards, top edge gilt, spines with five raised bands, rules in gilt. Binding signed "For William Brown, Edinburgh." Spines sunned from original dark green to a warm brown, slight rubbing to bottom edges. Internals sound and clean, with the bookplate of Alfred Sutro on each front pastedown. Hester Lynch Piozzi (1741-1821) was a "Welsh-born diarist, author, and patron of the arts. Her diaries and correspondence are an important source of information about Samuel Johnson and 18th-century English life" (wiki).
