The Evergreen Tales; or, Tales for the Ageless (Complete Set)

New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1949-52.

First Edition. Hardcover. Very good in a very good dust jacket. Complete set of 15 volumes illustrated in color, housed in five slipcases, some with original dust jackets, most signed by illustrator and/or editor, as noted in the following itemized list: Ali Baba and the 40 Theirves (with glassine dust jacket, illustrated and signed by Edward Ardizzone); the Ugly Ducking (with glassine dust jacket, signed by Jean Hersholt and Everett Gee Jackson); the Sleeping Beauty in the Wood (with glassine, unsigned, illustrated by Sylvain Sauvage); Joseph and His Brothers (illustrated by Arthur Szyk, signed by Jean Hersholt); The Story of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp (illustrated by Fritz Kredel, signed by Jean Hersholt); The Three Bears (illustrated by William Moyers, signed by Jean Hersholt); Jack and the Beanstalk (illustrated by Malcon Cameron, signed by Jean Hersholt); Hansel and Gretel (illustrated and signed by Henry C. Pitz); Bluebeard (illustrated by Hans Bendix, signed by Jean Hersholt); Pandora's Box (with glassine dust jacket, illustrated and signed by Rafaello Busoni); King Midas and the Golden Touch (with glassine dust jacket, illustrated and signed by Fritz Eichenberg); The Emperor's New Clothes (signed by Jean Hersholt and Ervine Metzel); Beauty and the Beast (with glassine dust jacket, illustrated by Edy Legrand, unsigned); Dick Whittingtom & His Cat (with glassine dust jacket, signed by Robert Lawson and Jean Hersholt); Saint George and the Dragon (with glassine dust jacket, illustrated by Edward Shenton; unsigned). All volumes numbered either 236 or 238 (but apparently not a married set in the sense that they all went to the same original subscriber, to whom two volumes are inscribed by Hersholt). Condition ranges from fine to very good; some volumes have light foxing to the endpapers and/or rubbing to the spine lettering. Slipcases generally very good, with a few chips or splits on the outer paper.
