Tucker--about whom there is a biographical entry in the book--on the verso of the front endpaper, dated in the year of publication. Beneath his signature is written "Given to _______ by the administrator of the B.F. Tucker Estate, 2/9/59." The first 231 pages are deducated to a history of Long Beach, with chapters on the land grants and ranchos, beginning of city government, public facilities, schools, oil discoveries, the Port of Long Beach, the city during World War II, police and fire departments, churches, civic organizations, etc. The remainder of the book is devoted to biographical sketches of prominent male members of the community.
