The intrepid author traveled to Egypt for the first time in 1863 and discovered her lifelong passion. Traveling by boat and armed with a sketchbook and measuring tape, she made detailed notes on all the temples, graves, and monuments she saw, later penning this book and the highly popular A Thousand Miles Up the Nile.
