New York: Scribner, Armstrong, and Company, 1873.
Hardcover. Near fine. A volume in the Illustrated Library of Travel, Exploration & Adventure. 256 pp + 4 pp of ads, engraved illustrations (several full-page), colored folding "Map Showing the Location of the Yellowtone National Park and its Prospective Railroad Connection with the Eastern States." Original dark red cloth decorated in gilt and black. Light rubbing to extremities, map has some splits and a tiny bit of loss at two folds, but still an uncommonly nice copy of this very early edition (the book was first issued in 1872, but that edition is quite rare, with only two institutional holdings recorded in OCLC). Although it draws on material from other sources, this is generally cited as the first guidebook to Yellowstone National Park, which was established in 1872. Sabin 71017.
