A scarce work of fiction with themes relating to early Southern California history, the missions, and the lore of the California poppy. According to the Huntington Library's finding aid for her papers, "Elizabeth Clara (Reynolds) Hazelton was born in London, England in 1866, and came to the United States in 1884. She married W.E. Hazelton on June 1, 1897 and in the same year they moved from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California. In the years following the couple lived in Juneau, Alaska and Seattle, Washington, searching for a healthier climate for W.E. Hazelton. After the death of her husband in 1931, Elizabeth C. Hazelton returned to California and worked as a stenographer and writer."
