München: R. Piper & Co., 1913.
Hardcover. Very good. First edition illustated by Kubin, number 68 of 800 copies issued, in a lovely gilt-decorated cloth binding by Paul Renner. All edges gilt. Only the stub of the original ribbon bookmark remains, some rubbing to corners and spine ends, but overall a very attractive copy. 29 cm, 243 pp, with sixty b/w illustrations by Kubin, an Austrian printmaker and illustrator who was an important figure of both the Symbolist and Expressionist movements. The text is a German translation of Dostoyevsky's "Dvoinik," often rendered as "The Double" in English-language editions.
