Hardcover. Good+. 12mo, pp xv, 152 + index, 7 hand-colored plates, each with explanatory text on the facing page. Contemporary quarter leather and marbled boards. Ex-library, with spine label, bookplate stamped "withdrawn" on front pastedown, evidence of card pocket removed from rear pastedown; but otherwise quite an attactive copy, clean and sound. Ownership inscription of Louisa Catherine Smith dated 1845 on front flyleaf. The first edition was published in 1822. This edition includes three additional plates as well as a glossary, introduces some new species, and provides English names for species only identified in Latin in the first edition.
