New York: Doubleday, Page, 1908.
First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 321 pp, in original green cloth with mountain vignette in white. Spot of bubbling to cloth on front board, light rubbing to extremities, lacking tissue guard over color frontispiece. Binding tight, text clean. Short gift inscription -- "F.H. Burr from W. Grosvenor Christmas 1908" -- on front free endpaper. The inscribee is likely Francis H. Burr, who was captain of the 1908 Harvard Crimson football team, entered Harvard Law School in 1909, and died of typhoid the following year. He had a classmate named William G. Grosvenor. Cook famously claimed to have reached the summit of McKinley (on the second of the expeditions described here) but was later proved to have lied and used a deceptive angle to create a fake summit photo. Arctic Bib. 3390; Neate C123.
