London: Robert Triphook, 1813.

Hardcover. Good. Three volumes (Volume I, pp 492; Volume II, Part 1, pp 1-392; Volume II, Part 2, pp 393-700) in contemporary full leather with gilt rules and borders, all edges gilt. Both parts of Volume II in very good condition, with some scuffing to the leather, mild waviness to text block from storage in a humid environment. Volume I is very clean internally, but the front board and part of the spine are fully detached and the rear board and remainder of spine are partly detached. Priced accordingly. "The first volume of The Palace of Pleasure, which appeared in 1566, contained 60 tales. It was followed in the next year by a volume including 34 new stories. An improved edition (1575) contained seven more new stories. To its popularity, and that of similar collections, is due the high proportion of Elizabethan plays with Italian settings" (Britannica).
