Slight sunning and wear to edges, small bookseller's label (Vernon Howard Mountaineering Books) inside rear cover, else fine. Le Conte was a highly respected geologist and one of the first professors at the newly formed University of California. In the summer of 1870, he joined Professor Frank Soule, Jr., and a group of eight students from the university on a six week excursion into the Sierras. The text is written in diary format and describes the adventure and surroundings in detail.
