Neate F45: "Forbes was a Scottish scientist and traveller who investigated the theory of glaciers and made many observations and mountain expeditions in the Alps. In 1842 he made the first British ascent of a virgin peak, the Stockhorn. He spans the era from De Saussure to Alfred Wills and his books are the first English accounts of systematic Alpine exploration and description of various regions."
