Hardcover. Very good. Undated, ca. 1905 (introduction provides estimated population from 1904). 9.25" x 12", brown cloth boards stamped in gilt, pp. 10, [2], 3-65, comprised of one page of text and 73 full-age halftone photographs, each with a brief printed caption. Boards have some rubbing and scuffing, upper outer corner bumped, all else very good. Duperly & Sons, established in 1840, was Jamaica's oldest photography studio. This attractive souvenir view book includes images of rural and urban landscape, roads, harbors, buildings, agriculture, and local people, and offers an excellent visual overview of the country in the early 20th century. Specific subjects include Duke, Harbour, and King Streets; Jubilee Market Square; Port Antonio (mulitple views); Lucea Harbor, Montego Bay; New Castle; Blue Pool-Roaring River, St. Anns; Tunnel Buff Bay, Portland; Castleton Gardens; Bog Walk (multiple views); ornamental and fruit trees; a banana plantation; banana carriers and fruit sellers; tobcacco sellers; cane cutters; "negro" and "native" huts; "coolies at worship," and more.
