Hardcover. Near fine. Baja California Travels Series #38. 189 pp, bound in patterned blue cloth, with frontispiece and 7 other illustrations in full color, reproducing paintings by Hilton. This copy is signed by Hilton on a front blank, which also bears a rough pencil sketch. One corner lightly bumped, spine slightly sunned, else fine. One of an edition of 500 copies printed by Grant Dahlstrom at the Castle Press in Pasadena. "John Hilton, desert painter and author, attended school and worked in the Los Angeles area until the Depression when he moved to the desert a few miles south of Indio. There he painted desert landscapes, wrote magazine articles and travelled extensively in Sonora, Mexico. In 1950, he moved to Twentynine Palms where he continued to paint and write" (UCSD Special Collections).
