Reprint (first published 1921). 9.25" x 6.75", 349 pp, in a stunning publisher's binding of green cloth decorated in gilt and multiples shades of blue, purple, and brown, with illustrated endpapers, 17 tipped-in color plates by Cramer, and b/w illustrations in the text by Govey. One small nick in the gilt on the upper border of the front board, slightest rubbing to corners, brief gift inscription on front free endpaper, else fine. Marie "Rie" Cramer (1887-1977) was a prolific Dutch writer and illustator of children's books, as well as a designer of stage sets, costumes, and ceramics. This volume contains 32 of Andersen's stories, including The Wild Swan, The Princess on the Pea, Thumbelina, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Snow Queen, The Flying Trunk, The Nightingale, The Ugly Duckling, and The Little Match Girl.
