Very good. 9.5" x 12.5", oblong, 44 pp, in original illustrated paper-covered boards, with seven full-page lithographed plates and title vingette by Rivière, and with additional art nouveau ornaments and decorative endpapers by George Auriol. Boards edgeworn, with loss at corners and spine ends, a few pages with light finger smudges; a bit delicate, but generally clean and sound. Le Juif Errant was performed as a shadow play at the Théâtre Antoine on April 7, 1898. Henri Rivière was by then famous for his creation of a form of shadow theatre performed regularly at the cafe and cabaret Chat Noir. Riviere produced more than 40 shadow plays on a variety of mythical, historical, and biblical themes in collaboration many different artists, writers, and musicians. He worked with Fragerolle on several occasions, and Enoch published colored albums of several of them. The "text" of this volume consists entirely of musical notation.
