Hardcover. Good. Second edition (first published 1808). pp 316, [4] (index). Re-bound in quarter cloth and marbled boards. Spine slanted; significant dampstain (not affecting readability) to pages 87-123, otherwise clean. Ashe (1770-1835), an Irish novelist and travel writer, was unfailingly critical of all he saw in America. He was, however, an entertaining writer, and Howes A-352 comments that the work is "interesting in spite of its snarling asperity and numerous lies."
