Contains accounts of many of the engagements and incidents in the campaign, as well as some information concerning the wreck of the Birkenhead, a vessel bringing reinforcements to the army in the field. There are also notes on "the character, habits, and customs of the various native races" Mendelssohn I, 829 (referring to the first edition of 1853); Abbey, Travel, 342.
