The second of Baker's two popular and highly readable books on his Nile explorations, this work offered the first complete account of the Abyssinian tributaries of the Nile, as well as an explanation of the effect on Egypt of seasonal fluctuation of the Nile tributaries (Tvedt, Nile Bibliography, 325).
