All books are subject to prior sale. We accept all major credit cards, checks, money orders, and PayPal, as well as purchase orders from insitutions. Washington residents who are not exempt will be charged sales tax. If you prefer not to order online, please send us an e-mail with your phone number and we will be happy to call you to get your credit card details. However, the website does have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. We use 256-bit SSL encryption to protect your financial information.
Advance payment is requested for most orders. Established customers, institutions, and booksellers known to us may request shipment with invoice (net 30). We offer reciprocal courtesies to the trade.
All books ordered online are returnable for any reason within 21 days of receipt, as long as they remain in the original condition. Walkabout Books will pay return shipping if a book is misdescribed. The buyer is generally responsible for return shipping if the book is returned for other reasons. Please let us know if you are sending a book back so we will be on the lookout.
All of our books are carefully and securely packaged to avoid damage during shipping.
For customers in the United States, we offer free shipping via U.S. Media Mail for orders of $30 or more. For orders under $30, or requiring faster shipping, we offer:
Media Mail, which can take 5-15 business days (how long generally depends on the distance between us and you) is $5.00 for the first book and $3.50 for each additional book.
Priority Mail generally takes 3-5 business days. For light items such as pamphlets and small books that can be adequately protected from damage and still fit, we will ship via Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope for $10.00. Heavier books and/or books requiring more protection will be shipped in a box. The default cost for this is $12.50, but for very large books or sets we may need to request additional postage. If you are uncertain which is appropriate for your item, feel free to ask in advance. Multi-book orders via priority mail will be charged at cost. Again, feel free to request a quote before ordering.
Express Mail: We are located in a rural area and can only offer same-day express mail shipping if you order before 1:00 PM Pacific Time. We charge a $10 convenience fee over the actual cost of postage, due to the time involved in transporting the package to a post office (further than our small, local office) where it will be guaranteed to go out that day. So we highly recommend just going with priority mail, but if you do want express, please contact us for a quote prior to ordering.
Standard (first class) international shipping (all countries other than Canada and Mexico) for the first book is $35.00, each additional is $25.00. If the item is very light or is oversized, shipping cost will be adjusted accordingly before your order is processed. If additional shipping charges apply we will contact you to confirm your approval before processing your credit card. Priority mail shipping is also available.
Standard (first class) shipping to Canada and Mexico is $22.00 for the first book and $15.00 for each additional. Priority is $30.00 and $20.00 for each additional.
Both international and domestic customers should be aware that our standard shipping costs are based on an average (1-2 lb) sized book. In most cases, we will absorb the cost of shipping if it turns out to be over our quoted cost. However, for some very heavy books or sets of books, it will be necessary for us to contact you to request that you pay an additional postage cost. We will never charge you more than the actual cost of postage, and you will always have the opportunity to cancel your order if you do not wish to pay the additional charge.
