"Through Yellowstone On A Coach" in Ladies' Home Journal, August 1904

Philadelphia, PA: Curtis Publishing Company, 1904.

First Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. Two-page travel narrative published as part of a single 40-page issue of Ladies' Home Journal. 11 x 16 inches, in original wrappers with cover illustration by Frank Guild. Moderate wear to extremities, old label on front cover. By 1904, an ambitious program of road and lodging construction had transformed Yellowstone from a dangerous, wild place into the perfect destination for the genteel tourist. Dale enthusiastically describes a six-day tour via stage (one of many such packages offered), with stops each night at luxury hotels, and along which one could see "a thousand spectacles, any one of which alone would gain a national reputation if it had chanced to be placed in some Eastern state all by itself," and where "people are more sociable and more natural than they are elsewhere in all their lives in any other place."
