First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Original blue cloth puckered in spots, rubbed through at corners and spine ends. Binding sound, contents clean. 353 pp, with 51 gravure plates, but lacking the folding map. The author traversed the Marotse country and visited the Gonye and Victoria Falls, and continued to Bechuanaland, Matabeleland, and Mashonaland (Mendelssohn I, p. 788). "Despite Johnston's hunter-like attire and pose in the frontispiece, this work is primarily one of travel.... He does embark on hunts after hartebeest, impala, and ostrich, and describes a lion hunt near Salisbury" (Czech p. 146).
