This biography gives particular emphasis to Lawrence's personal life (as opposed to his militarty exploits or literary accomplishments), focusing especially on his relationships with David Hogarth, John Bruce, Charlotte Shaw, and the mysterious "S.A." to whom Seven Pillars of Wisdom is dedicated. It also provides previously unpublished details of Lawrence's "flagellation disorder."
