A French Eton: Or, Middle Class Education and the State
London: Macmillan, 1864.
First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo,122 pp + ads. Publisher's burgundy cloth ruled in gilt. Mild edgewear, repaired tear to first page of text, else sound and clean. During his travels in France, Arnold visited several French secondary schools, which he found superior to their English equivalents. He argued that the main factor accounting for the difference was that in France the State played a major role in the educational system.
