Rare guide to the French protectorate of Tonkin, now northern Vietnam. Intended as the first in a series of "Petits Guides Indo-Chinois," it describes the region's postal, telegraph, and monetary systems; gives timetables and other details on steamer service and railroad travel, and offers practical tips on local customs, clothing, health and hygiene, etc. Brief histories are provided of the principal cities and their attractions. In addition to a general map of French Indochina the maps are: "Plan de la Ville de Haiphong," Plan de la ville de Hanoi," "Carte des voies fluviales du Tonkin," and "Carte du Reseau des Chemins de Fer de l'Indo-Chine." At the rear are ads for hotels and restaurants, horseback riding lessons, wine and spirits, a pharmacy, clothing stores, books, fabric, and more. Not found in OCLC or KVK.
