The Life of a Pony
New York, London, Paris: Raphael Tuck & Sons.
First Edition. Softcover. Very good. First Edition. Undated, 1890s. 7.25 x 14.5 inches, [14] pp, with glossy color cover, 8 color illustrations, and 19 line drawings. Light soiling to back cover, chip missing from outer paper at corner of front cover, otherwise clean and sound; very good. A scarce volume from the Father Tuck's Happy Hour series (No. 2048). The story, told in verse in the first person, describes Topsy the pony's early years with his mother, a donkey friend, and his "enemies" the geese; his first young human masters; joining a circus where he learns tricks, befriends an elephant, and ultimately becomes a famous performer; and finally returning to retire in the "dear old fields" where he was raised.
