Trade Card Advertising an 1882 Performance of Johann Strauss' "A Merry War" by Haverly's Opera Company

[Albany, NY]: [Cluett & Sons Pianos and Organs], [1882].

Very good. Trade card, ca. 4.5 x 55 inches, advertising Cluett & Sons Pianos and Organs and a performance of the comic operetta "A Merry War" at Tweddle Hall in Albany, NY. Contemporary newspaper reviews date the performance to 1882, the same year this work by Strauss was translated into English. Minor foxing and handling wear; very good. J.H. Haverly was a prolific manager and promoter of elaborate minstrel shows, but also ran several comic opera companies. The stars of this production were Amy Gordon (as Violetta), Marie Beauman (as Artemisia) and Willia, H. Fitzgerald (as Marquis Filippo Sebastiani).
