Bal Tabarin, Montmartre - Paris
Paris: G. Dellatre & Cie (Printer).
Very good. Color lithographed folded card (4.74" x 3.5") advertising the Bal Tabarin cabaret in Paris. Undated, but early 20th century. The Jules-Alexandre Grun artwork on the front is better known as a poster, which was published in 1904, the year the club opened. The text inside -- an excerpt from a newspaper notice by "Curnonsky" (i.e., celebrated food writer Maurice Edmond Sailland) -- notes the addition of "Mr. Brun" as a second manager, suggesting a slightly later date, possibly around 1914. There is additional brief promotional text on the back in French, English ("Every night, French cancan and Cosmopolitan dances. Every Saturday special gala night with the beauties of Paris in the cortege which starts at half past twelve"), Spanish, and German. Very good condition, with some light soiling to the margins.
