Light dust soiling to boards, small stain on front board, corners bumped, ink notation on front pastedown, ownership signature dated 1890 on front endpaper. Binding sound, text clean. Hapgood (1850-1928) played a significant role in bringing Russian literature to Anglo-American audiences. She translated dozens of books from the Russian and French, traveled to Russia several times, spent time with Tolstoy, and later wrote about him.
