Ninth edition, "enlarged, improved, and illustrated with numerous woodcuts," with contributions from several other prominent writers on photography. xvi, 599 pp + index and ads, with original silver print photograph of a young girl (possibly slightly trimmed at outer edge) as frontispiece. Bound in original maroon cloth with gilt lettering and decoration on the spine. Some dark discoloration to upper spine, early owner's info in pencil on front pastedown, otherwise clean and sound - a much better copy than often found of this highly detailed, widely used manual of photographic processes. It was first published in 1863. This is the final edition and is nearly twice as long as the first.
