First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. pp. xvi, 269 + [2], ads, with illustrations, folding map. Original blue cloth. Edges of boards rubbed, mild scuffing to rear board. Contemporary ownership signature on title page, otherwise unmarked and sound. "In the following chapters I propose to give a sketch of South America from a naval officer's point of view, and of the sport to be obtained there whilst engaged in the duties of protecting British interests...I am firmly convinced that a happy combination of work and sport is...conducive to the best interests of the service and the health and temper of those in it" (Chapter 1). Includes a log of all game bagged by the officers of his ship (the HMS Ruby) during a three and a half year tour. Among their kills were a variety of game birds, more than 1000 ostriches, wild cattle, deer, and wild sheep, goats, and pigs.
