Casas Grandes, A Fallen Trading Center of the Gran Chichimeca [8-Volume Set]

The Amerind Foundation and Northland Press: Dragoon and Flagstaff, 1974.

First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Complete set. All volumes tightly bound and clean, with very minor shelfwear. A prospectus for the set is laid into Volume I. The first three volumes contain the narrative of the excavation and the resulting new theories about the people of Gran Chichmeca and the development, dissemination, and decline of their cultures; the others "contain the detailed source material and basic scientific data upon which the evaluations and conclusions in the first three volumes are based." Volume 1: Preceramic-Viejo Periods; Volume 2: Medio Period; Volume 3: Tardio And Espanoles Periods; Volume 4: Dating and Architecture; Volume 5: Architecture; Volume 6: Ceramics and Shell; Volume 7: Stone And Metal; Volume 8: Bone -- Economy -- Burials. A contemporary review by Ernest J. Burrus described the first three volumes as "a new milestone in the history of southwestern archaeology," that "sheds abundant light on hitherto unsolved problems" in the region (Arizona and the West, Spring 1976). Due to weight, shipping cost will be considerably more than standard for priority or international orders.
