Chinese Village (Bradley's Straight Line Picture Cut-Outs)

Springfield, MA: Milton Bradley, 1924.

Very good-. Complete, unused set of 8 sheets (11" x 14.25") of cardstock, each containing different elements of the village to be colored, cut out, and assembled, accompanied by a sheet of instructions and housed in the original envelope. Sheets are in about very good condition (mild creasing at one corner, a few short tears at margins), but envelope is heavily worn, with splits at seams, tears, and some staining. Milton Bradley promoted their Straight Line Picture Cut-Outs as a "home occupation for little folks that provides worth-while fun in cutting, coloring, and simple construction work." The Village Series included Dutch, Japanese, Eskimo, African, Arabian, Hindu, Filipino, Mexican, and Pilgrim villages, all designed by Lulu Maud Chance. This American vision of a Chinese village includes tile-roofed houses; a garden pavilion; sampans and junks; rickshaw drivers and passengers; women holding parasols and fans; men and boys with queues; children flying kites; a water carrier; and street vendors and peddlers selling produce, pottery, shoes.
