San Antonio, TX: Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College / San Antonio Junior Chamber of Commerce, [1928].

Softcover. Good+. 6" x 9", 40 pp, in stapled wrappers, with many illustrations from photographs. Ink stamp of Thurman Barrett, Realtor, of San Antonio, on both wraps, pages lightly rippled; good to very good overall. According to the introductory comments by V.F. Taylor, contest manager, "the object of this report is to give a complete summary of the First Southwest National Conetst, to review the records of the various entries, to supply in condensed form the data that has been accumulated regarding egg production, cost, feeding, mortality, and the many other items that may be of interest to the poultry farmer." The contest was originated as southwest Texans, convinced that "nowhere in the entire nation are the climate, soul, markets, and general conditions more favorable to poultry raising," made a concerted effort to improve the quality and quantity of the state's poultry output. The report includes details regarding the feed consumption and monthly egg production of thirteen breeds, with the White Leghorns coming out on top.
