First Edition. Hardcover. Very good-. xx, [17]-327 pp + publisher's catalogue at rear. Catalogue is paginated 1-20, 23-32, and may be lacking a final leaf. Bound in original brown cloth with blind-stamped decoration. Spine is lightly sunned and there are some spots of abrasion to the spine lettering, as well as light edgewear to the boards. Interior has some scattered foxing, and front free endpaper has two circular embossed stamps from the State of Texas Treasurer's Office and the Comptroller's Office. The circular imprints are visible through approximately page 50 of the book. Otherwise unmarked and sound. Jenkins, Basic Texas Books 77: "The standard account of the financial history of the Texas Revolution and the Republic of Texas, this book is much more interesting reading than the title suggests, mixing humor, anecdotes, and historical sidelights with statistics, finance and fiscal theory." Jenkins also notes that the book has two central themes: the dangers of paper currency and ill-considered handling of public debt. Rader 1634; Raines p.96; Sabin 28071.
