Hetch Hetchy Valley. Report of Advisory Board of Army Engineers to the Secretary of the Interior on Investigations Relative to Sources of Water Supply for San Francisco and Bay Communities

Washington: Government Printing Office, 1913.

First Edition. 63d Congress 1st Session, House of Representatives Document No, 54. 9" x 6", 146 pp, with a folding map ("Map of Central and Northern California Showing Suggested Sources of Water Supply for San Francisco and Adjacent Territory and for Irrigation Issues"), folding profile ("Profiles of Proposed Conduit Lines for Water Supplies from American-Cosumnes, Mokelumne, and Tuolumne Rivers"), and additional maps and charts in the text, in original printed wrappers. Wraps lightly soiled, internals fine. This very detailed report was prepared by the Army Corps of Engineers "for the purpose of acting in an advisory capacity to the Secretary of the Interior on the question of the use of the Hetch Hetchy Valley for a storage reservoir as a part of the water supply of San Francisco." It concludes that while there are several possible sources that could provide sufficient water to meet the needs of the San Francisco region for the foreseeable future, Hetch Hetchy is the least expensive, as well as the best for generating hydroelectric power.
