Scarce collection of (mostly) original maxims and aphorisms offered "to the people of California and elsewhere" as "a full broadside upon the masked batteries of fraud and hypocrisy which are wreathing their temples with the golden spoils which are wrung by bad laws or by the weakness of good ones, from the laboring toil of honest worth."
