Boards unevenly darkened, with scuffing to extremities, spine shows damage, top edge darkened, contents clean and sound. Includes 60 beautiful tissue-guarded colored plates -- all 59 listed in the table of contents plus one additional (fruit of the Osage Orange). This edition was issued in five volumes -- the first three containing the work of Michaux and the final two (of which this is the first) containing Nuttall's continuation of Michaux's work -- together a classic of natural history that offered the most comprehensive treatment of American trees to date.
