George Cruikshank's Magazine
London: D. Bogue, 1854.
Hardcover. Good. Parts 1 & 2 (all issued) bound together without original wrappers or ads, but otherwise complete, with all plates. Bound in 3/4 morrocco and decorative paper-covered boards. Extremities rubbed, uneven darkening and some chuipping to outer paper on boards. One plate foxed, old dampstain visible at top margin of several pages. Tipped in following the first folding plate is a manuscript note in a 19th century hand, likely from a bookseller, reading "George Cruikshank's Magazine. Only two parts published [in 1853]. With one etching, three designs transferred on stone, eight woodcuts, and one plate in glyphography. This is a complete copy of the two parts. The work is one of the rarest of Cruikshank volumes, there being no copy in the Mackenzie, Hull, Stewart or Burnett Sale. The only copy recently in the market was one sold at Sotheby's on 11th August 1889...." Cohn 185.
