First Edition. Hardcover. Good+. 7 3/4 x 5 1/4, pp xi, [12]-349, in original brown cloth with blind-stamped decoration. Spine sunned, lower corners of boards damaged (chewed?), text unaffected and clean, binding tight. Inscribed on the front free endpaper by Binns to U.S. Marshal Yost in 1858. This likely U.S. Congressman John Senewell Yost (1801-1872), who represented Pennsylvania's fifth district in the 1840s and served as United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1857 until his resignation in 1861. Binns was an Irish-American journalist, editor, and political activist who lived in Philadelphia.
